Creating an immersive VR experience requires high framerate, low-latency and high fidelity visuals. Unfortunately, such requirements are prohibitive for battery-mobile devices, restricting VR experiences to tethered environments. A natural solution to this problem would be to leverage a resource rich system in the cloud, but the high bandwidth requirements and latency sensitivity of VR workloads apparently render this option unfeasible. In this talk, I will describe two systems we have built to overcome the limitations of mobile VR through cloud infrastructure while reducing the bandwidth requirements and the user perceived latency.
