Mandy Canales aka Mycana (she/her), is a VR theatre practitioner focused on how comedy translates in the virtual space. She uses stand alone VR headsets and full body tracking alongside utilizing traditional mask work and Commedia dell’arte techniques for exploration and research.
You may have seen her work in XR festivals including OnBoardXR, VRCon, PXR, The Virtual Reality Show, The Gray Area and, most recently, as a co-director of Shadow Canyon: A Puppeteer’s Tale at Raindance Immersive.
She teaches physical comedy, improv, and jazz dance at the Virtual Reality Dance Academy and performs with various improv groups in VRChat. She is an Assistant Professor in the department of Digital Technology and Culture at Washington State University.
