Joel Ong is an artist whose work explores art-making in the context of the “end of the world.” Inspired by creative and academic practices focused on human and more-than-human social justice, Ong shapes cultural imaginaries despite the urgency of the Anthropocene. His artworks have been showcased internationally at prestigious events and institutions such as the Currents New Media Festival, Nuit Blanche Toronto, Seattle Art Museum, the Gregg Museum of Art and Design, the Penny Stamps Gallery, and the Ontario Science Centre. Additionally, Ong holds the position of Associate Professor in Computational Arts and serves as the Director of Sensorium: The Centre for Digital Arts and Technology at York University in Toronto, Canada.
