Justin Baillargeon holds a doctorate in Cinema and Media Studies from York University and is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Digital Media and Communications at the University of Niagara Falls Canada. His interdisciplinary research, presented and published in both English and French, explores the intersections between extended reality (XR), digital media and emerging technologies, film studies and film theory, as well as motion and performance capture in cinema. He is the author of a French-language monograph on motion and performance capture in cinema, Between Reality and Virtual – Motion Capture in Cinema, published in 2021 by Éditions de l’Instant même, for which he received a grant from the Ontario Arts Council.
In addition to his academic work, he hosts and produces the bilingual podcast Dr. VR, which was nominated in 2024 in the Outstanding Technology Series category at the Canadian Podcast Awards. Through this podcast, he explores the ever-evolving world of virtual reality with exclusive interviews featuring leading developers and industry innovators from around the globe.
