Hailing from Kingston, Jamaica, Debbie is a Theatre and Digital Arts buff! As the CEO/Founder of her multi-media companies Debbie Deer Productions and Orion Digital Innovations and Creations Inc., she collaborates as a Creative Technologist, Writer, Director, and Educator. She studied Psychology at The University of The West Indies (Jamaica) and Radio and TV Production at Ryerson University (Toronto). Debbie credits much of her introduction into creative technology to OBAC as part of the Scale Up Immersive and Commercialization Programs (2022 and 2023 respectively). Debbie has worked with organizations such as Luminato Festival (Visual Lead), Toronto District School Board (Educational Partner), Sherbourne Health Center (Mentor), Power Plant Gallery (Artist-In-Residence), and Canada Arts Council. She is excited to be collaborating with Ari Tarr and York University on ‘The World’s First Hybrid XR Theatre Accreditation Program’ as a Guest Instructor and Research Assistant.
Debbie is also excited to boldly go where she has never gone before with The Nefertiti Experience (Story of a Rebel Queen) which is an Afrofuturistic Hybrid XR Theatre production based on the life of Queen Nefertiti. The Nefertiti Experience has been featured in Toronto International Film Festivals ‘Deep Focus’ program, Performance, and XR Conference and was selected for the 2023 Toronto Fringe Festival. She is an ambassador and advocates for BIPOC and 2SLGBTQIA inclusivity in arts and technology.
