Prof. Alexis Morris is the Canada Research Chair (Tier II) in the Internet of Things, director of the Adaptive Context Environments (ACE) Lab, and an assistant professor in the Faculty of Arts and Science (Digital Futures) at OCAD University. His mission is to transform the way we interact with information, each other, and the world around us through hybrid environments filled with hyper-connected virtual-physical objects, expressive and immersive IoT-avatars, and context-aware artificial intelligence assistants. Prof. Morris is currently leading a talented ACE Lab team of OCAD University students, local researchers, and collaborators in the design of mixed reality human-computer interfaces for the Internet-of-Things (IoT) – one of the pillars of exponential change connecting our physical and informational worlds. Prof. Morris is an interdisciplinary computer scientist, a passionate techno-optimistic futurist, and holds a Ph.D., from the University of New Brunswick, specializing in adaptive interfaces and context-awareness in smart environments. He hails from the Caribbean (Bahamas) and brings an eclectic perspective on how to enhance and uplift the human experience of living in the fast-approaching everyday metaverse ecosystem that is about to unfold before our very eyes.
